Message Your argument is based on what the OEM manufacturers have done, and there are lots of things that affect that, NVH and CAFE standards being among them. Those things are not performance-oriented.

And technically, the reason that you are wrong is that you don't understand that the shorter gearing gets you in to boost sooner. Yes, there is some small amount of benefit from being able to pull a gear for longer, but that is outweighed by the quicker response. While you are beginning to build boost and pull hard, the NA-geared car has already built boost and pulled away from you.

Your points about traction are not important for a car that is set up well on appropriate tires. It may apply in a pure street situation on pure street radials, but if you are arguing purely around that scenario, how worried are you about performance anyway? If you argue that you don't want the NA gear because you will spin too much at a red light, then you are arguing from the standpoint of juvenile BS.

There are lots of things wrong with your argument. And there's lots of folks who use their cars who disagree based on first-hand experience.

And so I point out what's wrong with your argument.
